Love God First – Luke 14:25-33 by Fr. Michael Sparough, SJ

In this passage from the Gospel of Luke, Jesus proclaims that love is the fulfilment of the law. Love God first and then love your neighbor as yourself.

Fr. Michael notes that the first principle for St. Ignatius is that we are created for God. God wants us to become saints; to live eternally with Him in Heaven. He’s given us this world and the resources within. He’s given us gifts to help us find our way back to Him: good looks, money, family, intelligence, etc. These are all good things, but they must not displace God, instead we should use them to help find our way back to God.
